BUCYRUS – The Bucyrus City School District has enrolled with STOPit, the leading technology platform for schools that deters and controls harmful or inappropriate conduct.

STOPit empowers students with an easy app to safely and anonymously report anything of concern to school officials – from cyberbullying to threats of violence or self-harm.

“The implementation of this technology is a proactive step in our continuing efforts to provide a safe and secure learning environment for all Bucyrus students,” said Kevin Kimmel, Bucyrus Superintendent. “Students can be our best asset in deterring any possible issues, and we want them to have an avenue for anonymously reporting suspicious activities that could help us deter and control harmful or inappropriate conduct.”

With STOPit, students can submit anonymous reports containing text, photos, or video. Administrators are then able to manage incidents in a backend management system called DOCUMENTit. DOCUMENTit provides efficient and powerful investigative tools to our staff, including the ability to message with the reporter, which will allow us to address issues instantly.

“It’s not a secret that we are living in a time when our families, students and staff have a heightened sense of awareness for school safety,” Kimmel said. “The Board of Education approved the contract for this technology and we are not wasting time introducing it to our students, staff, families and community.”

STOPit does more than just help schools address incidents and mitigate risk. STOPit will also help the Bucyrus City School District go beyond reacting to bullying and inappropriate behavior, and instead start deterring it.

The district will begin the rollout of the new technology platform with an informational meeting for families and the community starting at 7 p.m. in the historic Bucyrus Elementary School auditorium Tuesday, Feb. 27. This meeting will also be broadcast on YouTube Live through the district’s YouTube page starting at 7 p.m. for those unable to attend the meeting.

Students and staff will be introduced to the STOPit program during special safety assemblies at both the Bucyrus Secondary School and Bucyrus Elementary School Wednesday, Feb. 28.
