US-based firm STOPit launches app to fight cyberbullying
STOPit provides four approaches to standing up against cyberbullying. The STOPit button allows victims to capture offensive content and report it to authorized adults. This action will send a warning message to the bully that notifies them that the incident has been reported to school officials, the report explained.
The HELPit button links students with support groups that will help victims cope with the bullying experience. Bystanders who witness a bullying incident can anonymously report t using the FRIENDit button. Lastly, the REPORTit button escalates more dangerous bullying situations to adults or law enforcers, the report detailed.
Founder Todd Schobel said: "There are countless online platforms that give children the opportunity to hide behind their smart phones and computers to victimize others. My goal is to empower children with an outlet in which they feel safe to stop it. Children will go so far as to take their own lives when dealing with the emotional consequences of cyberbullying and I want to put an end to it."
