BROADVIEW HEIGHTS, Ohio — A Brecksville-Broadview Heights student is in custody due to a "potential threat" against the school district.

According to officials, the alleged threat involved "a list of student names," and administrators were alerted to its existence through the district's "STOPit" reporting app. Police apprehended the unnamed suspect Wednesday, and family members of those on the list were also notified.

The matter comes just days after a similar incident in nearby Bedford, where a freshman forced the closure of all schools for multiple days due to images and messages involving firearms. All Brecksville-Broadview Heights schools remained open.

Authorities are still conducting an investigation. You can read the entire statement from the school district below:

"The Brecksville-Broadview Heights City Schools confirms that a student was taken into custody on Wednesday, December 7th prior to the start of the school day after district leaders were alerted to a potential threat associated with this individual, and which was reported through our STOPit app earlier this week. The threat included a list of student names, the families of whom were immediately notified and informed, upon its discovery. BBHCSD officials involved its team of public safety resources, including our local police department, who apprehended the individual responsible for the threat, and launched its investigation. The BBHCSD treats such matters with the utmost seriousness, will respond as quickly as possible, and will continue the week with added police presence throughout all of its campuses to uphold our top priority of keeping students and staff safe and secure."
